Villagers and travellers passing through Holmes Chapel driving electric vehicles will soon be able to recharge in The Precinct.
Work for some weeks in the car park has now revealed six charging points available.
The absence of public charging has been a bone of contention among drivers in the village, which apart from two stands at Aldi appears to have been without charging facilities, (writes John Williams).
With the increasing use of electric cars and vans in the drive for total “green” energy, The Precinct is well-suited to attract additional business to the village due to the proximity of the M6.
There are no charging points between the long stretch from Knutsford to Sandbach as well as the A50 and the Alderley Edge to Holmes Chapel routes.
Holmes Chapel Parish Council has recently established a task group to investigate the need and desire for EV charging facilities in the village and is seeking the views of residents and from surrounding areas with a short survey.
Electric vehicle drivers will be able to charge up in the centre of Holmes Chapel from October.
The six charging points are expected to be available before the end of the month.
A large transformer in The Precinct car park was originally speculated to be a giant generator to power the chargers. Critics unhappy about the loss of some parking places said if this had been the case it made a mockery of the drive for “green” energy.
