Congleton Lawn Tennis Club held a very successful quiz evening last Friday.
Brian Dean was the quizmaster and 10 teams competed valiantly, racking their brains for obscure facts.
The Village Idiots narrowly squeezed through to victory and won the top prize of two hours’ coaching with head coach Craig Leese, of Smashtennis.
Just missing out on the top spot were And In Last Place who were each rewarded with a tin of tennis balls.
Third place went to The Legends who happily took advantage of a free drink from the bar.
And the team that supported everyone else by coming bottom was ingloriously named Up The Rear. They went home with a large wooden doorstop made by member Kerry Hall.
The quiz itself contributed £280 towards club funds and charity partner Visyon and considerably more was “donated” via purchases from the bar. A great night was had by all.
The next fundraising event is a cheese and wine tasting evening on Friday, 12th November.
Laithwaites, of Alderley Edge, will present six wines to be tasted and discussed, along with unusual cheeses chosen specially to complement each wine. The last time this event was held, it was a sell-out and tickets are going fast. To book, call Eileen Grigg on 07786 782 187.
