A short ceremony on Saturday saw the Rotary Tree of Light and Life switched on. The Can’t Sing Choir performed from their seasonal repertoire, and the vicar of All Saints, Congleton, the Rev Ian Enticott officiated.
The tree will remain illuminated, surrounded by stars with personal messages to loved ones, until 12th Night. Stars are available to purchase from the information centre at the town hall until 22nd December, when the final stars will be hung around the tree in time for Christmas.
Since it was planted, the tree has grown and the messages that surround it are testimony of how the tree has come to symbolise the meaning of Christmas to the people of Congleton.
This year a section is dedicated to the people of Ukraine.
