Toe-tapping start to the festive season

The Christmas at Delamere Forest event made me feel the most normal I’ve felt in two years.

I visited on opening night (Friday) and mingled with crowds of people in a lovely, Christmassy atmosphere.

It was the first time I’ve been to a public event since I started shielding in March 2020, so this was a big deal for me. (Many people see covid as a distant nightmare but according to vaccines website gavi.org, as of May 2022, 13% of people classified as clinically vulnerable were still shielding, while 69% reported taking extra precautions, which might include social distancing or wearing a mask).

So it was with an immense sense of excitement that I took to the enchanting after-dark illuminated trail on a Christmassy amble through a festively-decked forest – with new installations for 2022 – and a fantastic toe-tapping soundtrack, sure to get even the Scroogiest visitor in the mood for the big day.

Along the way (approximately a mile) you can discover glittering tunnels of light, trees drenched in jewel-like colour and wander beneath larger-than-life illuminations.
The spectacular installations and seasonal sounds sparkle and resonate throughout the magical forest setting.

Christmas at Delamere Forest runs from Friday, 2nd December to Sunday, 4th December; Friday, 9th December to Sunday, 11th December; Friday, 16th December to Saturday, 24th December and Boxing Day to New Year’s Eve.

There will be quiet access sessions for adults and young people with additional needs at 4pm on Friday, 2nd December and Tuesday, 20th December.

Advanced booking for all sessions is essential. Visit forestryengland.uk/christmas-at-delamere.
