More of the club championships at Congleton Lawn Tennis Club have been concluded or there have been attempts to play them (writes Andrew Giltrap).
Sunday was the scheduled day for the open singles events.
In the final of the open ladies event, which was played as a knockout, a morning final saw Venus Moses defeat Heather Bryson 6-2 6-4 after an hour and 20 minutes, some of that in the rain. There were lots of long rallies. Thanks went to sponsors Hightown Fish and Chips.
The men’s open singles championship was planned as a one-day fast four-style event in the afternoon with 16 members taking part.
Unfortunately after on-off rain in the morning, the heavens opened just before the scheduled start time. This made the hard courts unplayable and therefore the event had to be postponed.
It will now played as a knockout, with players arranging their own matches and all matches being best of three tie-break sets.
The first round matches are to be played by end of September Thanks went to the main sponsors, Per4mance Fitness and Ant Ayre-Bespoke Fitness.
The plate event was sponsored by Crepe O Licious.
The club sent massive congratulations to runners Shirley, Mike and Amy Spratt who recently completed the Dingle Marathon in memory of club member Nigel Spratt.
The family would like to thank all of the club members and everyone else who helped them raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK by sponsoring them for this event.
Three marathon runners in one family; Nigel would be so proud.
The club is thrilled to announce that it is now partnering with Parx Mortgage and Insurance Services, of Riverside Mill, which will sponsor the 2024 Fun Fireworks Tournament on Wednesday, 6th November. Entries will open soon via the website.
