A year 11 student at Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School in now fund-raising to participate on a four-week trip in Kenya with Camps International.
Elizabeth Finnan has been selected by the charity, which is dedicated to empowering communities around the world through education, conservation, and sustainable development, to go on the volunteering expedition.
She said: “Camp Kenya 2025 is more than just a volunteer trip – it’s a chance to create lasting, positive change. Kenya is a beautiful country with vibrant cultures, but many communities face significant challenges, including limited access to quality education, environmental degradation, and economic hardship.
“I will be part of a team working to provide educational opportunities, promote environmental conservation and support sustainable community development. We aim to make a tangible impact and help build a brighter future for the people of Kenya.”
She said she would be participating in local community and environmental initiatives, living and working alongside local people in a range of building and community projects, and learning traditional skills and crafts.
She will also get the opportunity to meet the Maasai Tribe, discover the Kenyan landscape from the view of Mt Kenya and explore the Wildlife of Tsavo East National Park.”
With Camps International, young travellers are expected to fund raise for their trip, encouraging responsibility, communication and organisation skills.
Elizabeth is holding a quiz night and raffle on Wednesday, 20th November at The Vicarage, Knutsford Road, Cranage. The quiz will start at 7pm. It is £5 per team (cash only), with a maximum of six people per team.
