“A life-saving facility for the community” was destroyed again following a collision at a crash blackspot.
As reported in the “Chronicle” on Thursday the phone box, at Twemlow Green and which houses a defibrillator, was flattened last Sunday evening following a collision involving a car and a motorbike.
The rider of the bike, a 33-year-old man from Warrington, sustained serious injuries and was taken to North Staffordshire Hospital.
The driver of the Audi, a 19-year-old man from Wilmslow, was taken to Macclesfield District General Hospital as a precaution and was later discharged.
He was later arrested on suspicion of drug-driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
It was the second time the phone box housing the defibrillator had been demolished. A few years ago, a car plunged off the road at the corner and collided with it before bursting into flames.
The phone box was only replaced last year and had a new defibrillator and cabinet installed.
Cheshire East Coun Andrew Kolker, whose Dane Valley ward includes Twemlow, said this week: “It’s a terrible situation because Twemlow Parish Council only recently paid for a replacement.
“It’s a facility that’s really valuable to the community because it houses lifesaving equipment and so for the phone box to be demolished for a second time is a terrible pity.” A power supply for the defibrillator had only been replaced in recent months.
The minutes of a Twemlow Parish Council in May showed that a new battery and pads for the defibrillator had arrived and had cost the council more than £382.
