Several people have contacted The Chronicle about a local man who helped to drive the Royal Train.

It was, of course, Bob Hart, of Biddulph, who earlier this year sent in this photo of one such event, after 46233 The Duchess of Sutherland passed through the area, an engine that had pulled the royal train in 2002.

Mr Hart recalled: “I was the fireman on that great occasion. We had taken the loco to Holyhead the previous day and stayed overnight in Holyhead. The train arrived around 8am and we attached 46233 to haul the train back towards Llandudno Junction, stopping at Llanfairpwllgwyngyll for the Queen to alight.

“We then were hauled back to Holyhead for the train to be serviced, and around 1pm we set sail for Llandudno Junction, where the Queen would re-join the train, and we were introduced to the royal party. We then took the train to Crewe where a diesel attached and took it onto the Cambrian lines for other engagements.”
