A 10-year-old Biddulph boy who has racked up three million views on his YouTube channel was shortlisted for an award in a ceremony dubbed “the Oscars of the football content industry”.

Jaxxon Jay Bossons, who plays centre back for Chatterley Falcons in Biddulph, was shortlisted from thousands of entrants and nominated for the “best young content creator” category.

On Thursday, he travelled to Tottenham Hotspurs’ stadium in London to attend the awards ceremony.

The Football Content Awards celebrate the best in daily online football media from the independent creators to the media organisations. The aim is to “congratulate the best in class”.

Jaxxon, a year six pupil at Ellison Primary in Newcastle-under-Lyme, said his dad, Terry Bossons, told him he had made the shortlist on the day that he didn’t make it onto his school cross country team, and said the news cheered him up.

He has close to 8,000 subscribers on his JB Sports television YouTube channel which he began two years ago, and his content includes following Port Vale football club, completing challenges and just “having fun”.

A couple of years ago he met his “favourite” footballer Jesse Lingard after his dad “pulled a few strings”.

“It was a mixture of luck and cheek that did it. He always sets challenges for the page and a lot of times it works. He also likes Erling Haaland, like most kids and got sent a signed Erling Manchester City shirt,” said Mr Bossons.

Jaxxon has also met and been photographed with Lioness Chloe Kelly.

Two of the country’s “biggest” football YouTubers, “Angry Ginge” and Danny Aarons who both have millions of subscribers to their channels have also appeared on screen with the 10-year-old.

Mr Bossons, who is originally from Biddulph and now lives in Wolstanton, Newcastle-under-Lyme said: “The two YouTube stars have appeared in Jaxxon’s videos, and he has got to know them very well and played football with them.”

‘Big deal’

The determined young creator who supports Port Vale spends a handful of hours a week filming and putting together content for his channel. His dad described the award as a “big deal in the football realm”.

When asked how he attracted subscribers, Jaxxon answered: “By entertaining them, I guess,” and said he “cannot believe” his channel had made it to over one million views.

The youngster, who has his own Press pass for Port Vale home games, said he felt “nervous” about attending the finals in London and said it would be the first time he had set foot in the capital.

Although he missed out on a win at the glittering awards ceremony, an upbeat Jaxxon said: “I didn’t win but I’ve been top 10 in the whole of Britain, so it’s a great experience.”

Mr Bosson praised his “humble” son’s guts and hard work ethic and said: “It blows my mind to think how well he has done. When I was his age, I wouldn’t dare to speak in front of an audience – no way!”

This year, Jaxxon also secured media accreditation to watch the England under-17s team after players were “impressed” by his channel and he sat close to England goalkeeper James Trafford during the game.

Added Mr Bossons: “The YouTube community are friendly and it has opened a lot of doors for him. It means I have to drive him around the country to do crazy things but I absolutely love it now!”
