DJ John Mearman is back out of retirement (again) for a second daytime disco at Congleton Town Hall.

This one is in aid of the local Ukrainian network, supporting the town’s Ukrainian guests.

Music fans will soon be overwhelmed by all those old Christmas favourites from Slade, Jona Lewie, The Pogues, Mud, Wizzard, Boney M and Band Aid … but anyone who can remember all these artists from the first time they released their Christmas hits is ready to rock around the Christmas tree at the Spindoctors’ Christmas Daytime Disco for Grown-ups at Congleton Town hall on Saturday, 14th December.

The Spindoctors DJs are back again spinning all the best sounds from the 70s, 80s and 90s but this time they promise to “really put on a show”. On stage there’ll be two Santas plus a giant inflatable swan called Simon.

There’s a licensed bar, lots of lights, gifts and mayhem.

Mr Mearman said: “We’re really going for it with this one! We’re going to make sure that this will be an event to remember. We want people to dress to impress and really let their hair down (that is, of course, if we still have any hair left at our age!).

“We guarantee you won’t be disappointed. It’s going to be pure excitement and entertainment from 3pm right through to 7.30pm (ish). This is going to be one Christmas party you won’t forget!”

The Christmas Disco for Grown-Ups is purely a charitable event and The Spindoctors DJs are providing their services free of charge to support Ukrainians who are now living in Congleton and the surrounding area.

The Congleton Area Ukrainian Support Network is run entirely by local volunteers with the sole aim of making the lives of displaced Ukrainian families a little better each day.

The charity also works closely with Congleton’s New Life Church, which provides a focal point for Ukrainians to meet, converse and practise their English skills. They’re also given access to a clothes bank.

To date, the network has helped more than 300 Ukrainians move into their own accommodation locally and provided them with furniture, white goods, kitchenware and bedding. Help with learning the English language is also a priority with almost 1,000 face-to-face English lessons already delivered together with after school lessons for children on a one-to-one basis.
