It’s an ancient game that can improve thinking and mental well-being.
Now a keen chess player is making moves to start regular Saturday morning chess sessions at Sandbach Library.
The library has been gifted eight competition chess sets from the Chess in Schools and Communities charity, which aims to “improve educational outcomes and social development through the world’s oldest game”.
Senior librarian Liz Barry wants to encourage chess players from Sandbach and surrounding areas and with the help of keen player Nigel Hancock, of Alsager.
The first games are due to take place at the library on Saturday, 25th February.
All ages and abilities will be welcome. To find out more about chess locally, email Mr Yates at nigeljhancock55@gmail.com.
