A spokesperson for Birches Crematorium has said they are “delighted” to have won the crematorium of the year award for a second time, having received the coveted award previously in 2022, as well as being finalists in 2023.
The awards are run by the Association of Green Funeral Directors and celebrate high standards, hard work and dedication.
The team at Birches – located at Lach Dennis – works hard to ensure families get an individual service that reflects the deceased.
Outdoor services are offered at the crematorium, which first opened its doors in 2020.
Angela Dunn, general manager, said: “We are delighted to receive this award which reflects the care, hard work and dedication of every single member of our team.”
During 2024, Birches launched its own choir, which now has around 40 members and has performed at Birches summer and D-Day services.
Birches is thought to be the only crematorium in the UK that has its own choir, bringing together the community as well as those who have lost a loved one, tackling grief through music.
Pete Sadler-Eastwood, operations manager, added: “The choir has been a great success since it began earlier this year.
“By enabling the community to join together in song, we’ve been able to make a real difference to people’s journeys of bereavement. Anyone is welcome to join. We meet on the first Sunday of each month – meetings are free of charge and include plenty of tea and cake!”
