A local club is hoping it can net new members as it gets set to reopen after the lockdown.

Alsager Tennis Club is inviting families to give tennis a try when sports clubs reopen as lockdown measures continue to ease.

The club, based in the town centre, off Sandbach Road North, is to welcome members back to its courts from 29th March, when outdoor sports can resume as per the Government’s roadmap.

In the hope of attracting new people to the sport, the club is offering a special one-month taster membership for just £20 per person ahead of the new membership year starting on 1st May.

Children aged under 13 are included free with an adult taster package, which will run from 29th March to 30th April.

Club chairman Dave Parkinson said: “Everyone at the club is looking forward to getting back out on our fantastic new courts as lockdown is eased.

“Tennis is an excellent sport to maintain social distancing and we would be delighted to welcome people of all abilities to join us from 29th March.

“The taster membership is a great way to give the sport a try and experience our superb new facilities.”

In April last year, the club spent £55,000 replacing its four tarmac courts with a new all-weather TigerTurf Advantage Pro surface.

And in December work was completed on new floodlights for all four courts, increasing the amount of playing time for members.

Hand sanitiser is provided on each court and social distancing measures are observed at all times.

Anyone taking up the taster membership will have the option to become a full-time member from 1st May.
