Justice return with their fourth album in about 20 years and things have not changed much in their world, the cool French dudes still producing what is often essentially smart disco.
It’s like LCD Soundsystem never went away. The radio-friendly dance pop tunes, (like “D.A.N.C.E.” from breakthrough “Cross”) make sure more casual fans are kept happy, though track two “Generator” is as heavy as anything they’ve done.
The strong 70s disco influence remains, with strings in a couple of places and a fair amount of walking bass driving tunes along.
“Explorer” could be the music from a dark 70s detective film, probably starring Clint Eastwood, a serial killer and some jazz, while “Muscle Memory” could be Jean-Michel Jarre.
It’s a slick album; it perhaps won’t win any new fans but decent and fun to listen to.
