A trapped pony appeared none the worse after having to be rescued by firefighters on Saturday morning.

Amber had become stuck at the bottom of a muddy embankment off Holmes Chapel Road at Sproston.

Firefighters were called to help a farmer rescue her shortly before 8am after she had slid down the slope and could not get back up.

A fire engine from Middlewich, a technical rescue unit and supporting fire engine from Lymm, and an animal rescue unit from Bollington went to the scene.

They helped the farmer to get Amber free before the 28-year-old animal was assessed by a vet.

Lymm Fire Station posted on social media said crews had “worked tirelessly” to release her and she was now recovering.
