A Foden superfan has compiled his 60-year memorabilia collection into a new book.
Retired Smallwood farmer John Sanderson, (73), became obsessed with Foden trucks as a child and has documented his long fascination in the tome, which contains more than 300 pictures.
The vintage vehicles are an icon of Sandbach transport and were manufactured at a factory in Elworth until 1980.
Mr Sanderson explained: “I remember cattle feed being delivered to the farm in Foden trucks, the milk being picked up by Foden’s and even our family doctor worked at the factory – he would give me badges with pictures of trucks on them.”
Mr Sanderson’s gigantic collection is housed at Brook Farm, on Moss End, where he lives. He has been supplying parts for Foden trucks worldwide for the last four decades and his captivation with the brand is such that fellow enthusiasts have nicknamed him Mr Foden.
His book, Memories of Foden, involved three years of painstaking research using his 25,000-strong collection of photographs and other resources.
“It’s an addiction,” he said. “People were always telling me to document it and get it written down, and I’ve finally done it.”
The books are £20 and can be purchased via Mr Sanderson by calling 01477 500 386. Any profit made will be given to Prostate Cancer UK.
