Bruntwood SciTech, the owner of Alderley Park, recently welcomed Macclesfield MP David Rutley to highlight the growth in the number of businesses moving to the campus, and the impact this was having for employment opportunities locally.
Alderley Park, the former home of Astrazeneca, is the UK’s largest single-site life science and innovation campus and offers more than 1m square feet of high specification lab and office space alongside a range of scientific services and business support.
The campus has enticed more than 250 companies comprising 4,500 people to the park.
Bruntwood SciTech is a joint venture between Bruntwood and Legal and General, and is investing £247m into the park’s masterplan. This has seen the newly re-developed 150,000sqft Glasshouse, open in February 2020, which offers high specification, collaborative workspace to tech companies and innovative businesses.
The summer saw the completion of a £20m investment into redeveloping 86,000sqft of state-of-the-art biology and chemistry labs.
The campus also offers a range of amenities, including a conference centre complete with a 232-seat auditorium and meeting rooms, pub and restaurant, gym and outdoor sports pitches.
Speaking after the visit, Mr Rutley said: “Each time I visit Alderley Park, I am impressed by the new development that has taken place on the site.
“Alderley Park provides hundreds of jobs and is an important part of the local economy and the Cheshire Science Corridor.
“With more businesses moving to the campus, I look forward to working with Bruntwood SciTech to realise the opportunities that this will have for people and businesses in and around Macclesfield over the years to come.”
Mr Rutley’s constituency stretches to the edge of Congleton and takes in Siddington, Eaton, Gawsworth and North Rode, and the villages in between.
