Dougie Mac has good news for anyone planning to have a real Christmas tree this year but wondering what to do with it once the festive season is over – the hospice’s popular
Christmas tree recycling campaign is returning in January.
For the first time parts of Biddulph centre are included.
People across the local area can register their Christmas tree for collection, in exchange for a donation to Dougie Mac.
The hospice’s volunteers will again be collecting from post code areas including ST5 (Barthomley), ST6 (Brown Edge, The Rookery and Newchapel), ST7 (Alsager, Mow Cop, Scholar Green, Hassall Green, Newchapel, Oakhanger, Rode Heath, Church Lawton, Mount Pleasant, Red Bull, Barthomley, Brown Lees and Harriseahead) and ST9 (Lask Edge and Rudyard).
The hospice has also added four new post codes to this year’s collection route – ST8 (Biddulph, Brown Lees, Lask Edge, Timbersbrook, Biddulph Moor, Cloudside and Congleton Edge), and ST13 (Cloud Side, Rushton, Heaton, Horton, Rudyard and Rudyard Reservoir).
An army of Dougie Mac volunteers will collect the trees on the weekend of 13th–15th January and the green fundraising initiative will see the collected trees be recycled and turned in to compost by H Brown and Son Recycling.
Donna Adams, head of fundraising at Dougie Mac, said: “Last year we collected and recycled more than 1,400 trees and raised more than £17,000 thanks to the generosity of our supporters who made a donation in exchange for us collecting their tree.
“Our Christmas tree collection service not only helps people to recycle their unwanted tree in an environmentally friendly way, but also raises vital funds for Dougie Mac. By registering for our tree collection supporters know that they’re helping to provide care for local children, young adults and adults with life-limiting conditions in our area.”

Go to the Dougie Mac and register a tree before 11.59pm on 8th January. Trees can be collected from homes, businesses, schools and churches.
Dougie Mac’s Christmas tree collection relies on an army of volunteers to make it a success.

Douglas Macmillan Hospice (also known as Dougie Mac) provides specialist palliative care for adults, young adults and children across North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent who face cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, including advanced heart failure and dementia.
In March 2021, plans to amalgamate local children’s hospice, The Donna Louise Trust were finalised.
The hospice receives no funding from any national charity and has no association with any organisation bearing the same or a similar name.
It will cost in excess of £17.7m in 2022 to run and develop the full range of services for the hospice; 75% of the total sum is funded by voluntary donations.
