Members of Churches in Congleton have erected the regular large cross in the town centre with an invitation to the public to pause there and pray the prayer attached over the town and surrounding villages this Easter season.

In normal times there is a procession with the cross and a gathering of around 300 people thronging the town centre every Good Friday at midday with an uplifting service taking place.

A spokesman for the churches said: “As many people all around the world are aware, ‘the cross’ is the symbol of the Christian faith and for the past 2000 years its message has brought new life here on earth and hope of eternal life in Heaven.
“For those readers not able to visit the cross, the prayer attached reads
as follows:

Churches in Congleton invite you to
pause for prayer this Eastertime.

Pray for our Town.
In Jesus’ name we pray for God’s blessing on our town and surrounding area.
We pray for marriages, families and homes for love and understanding.
For our health that we may be strong and well.
Our wealth for enough to live and enough to give.
We pray for businesses and employment that every wholesome
enterprise may be successful.
For our schools to be safe and secure, and our children to grow in knowledge and wisdom.
We ask Lord that you bless our churches that the Holy Spirit and the Word of God may flow out in power and love.
May the whole town be blessed to know the Living God.
We ask these prayers in and through the name of Jesus, Amen.

“Churches in Congleton wish everyone a joy filled Easter with good health and wellbeing in the rest of the year ahead.”
