Four days of delays are expected in Alsager next week while Crewe Road is closed to traffic and the surface is patched.

From Monday, the town’s main road will be closed from the junction with Lawton Road at Bank Corner to Hassall Road.

Patching work is due take place each day until Thursday from 9am-4pm. Emergency access will be maintained where possible, the council said.

A letter sent by Cheshire East Council’s highways department to residents and business on the affected stretch of Crewe Road said: “We understand there is no right time to undertake this work, however the scheme has been carefully planned to minimise disruption to local residents, businesses and members of the travelling public.”

It added: “We will make every effort to maintain vehicular access to your property or business, however it is inevitable that some inconvenience will occur and there may be periods of time when point of entry will vary.”

The official diversion route will be the A500 via Radway Green Road or Audley Road/Sandbach Road South in the other direction.

Other projects earmarked for Alsager’s roads include resurfacing the length of Lawton Road between Richard Woodcock Way and Bank Corner, Ashmore’s Lane, The Avenue, Meadowcroft and Cranberry Lane. Patching work is planned for Shady Grove.

The Avenue has recently been closed for core testing.
